User Experience Designer

Visual Search & AR at Amazon

Visual Search uses computer vision technology to help customers find products and labels around them on Amazon through their mobile devices’ camera. The team also use Augmented Reality to help customers visualizing products in their room and better evaluate the style and fit throughout their shopping journey.

My contributions in the team:

Redesigned camera search, photo search and AR product preview experiences to deliver more advanced functionalities and more robust use cases to our customers.

Grown and expanded Amazon’s foot print beyond its own app by integrating our camera search experience into 3rd party apps and operating systems.

Spoke at Amazon Machine Learning Conference. Shared learnings from designing for computer vision.

Organized and facilitated a series of brainstorming sessions for designers and computer vision engineers to contribute new concepts to our product roadmap and 3yr planning.

 

Experience Designer

Innovation Lab at Publicis Sapient

Publicis Sapient is an agency that helps clients design and build digital experiences. The mission of Innovation Lab in the company is to create and examine new experiences enabled by emerging technologies that will transform clients’ business in the next 3-5 years. 

My contributions in the team:

Designed and in-store tested a mobile app using image recognition and micro-location sensing for product discovery and "gamified" shopping.

Prototyped and tested different ways of presenting and interacting with various virtual reality environments ranging from pure content consumption to interior customization.

Helped establish use cases and generate prototypes for AR used in industrial environments.

Created a visual way-finding tablet browsing experience to help users discover aesthetically similar items. Explored interactive feedback mechanisms to improve the similarity over time.

Construct and participate in both qualitative and quantitative user testing to evaluate the use cases and the designs of these projects.

Provide insights and guidelines to our clients, internal teams and external partners on how to build unique and seamless experiences with these emerging technologies. 

 

User Experience Designer

January – July 2013, Cambridge, MA

Akamai Technologies, Inc. 

Design a new dashboard and related web pages for Global Traffic Management (GTM) to improve its usability. Running on company’s intelligent platform, this new web-based tool helps clients monitor and configure their online applications.

Lead several rounds of customer reviews & testings for the new GTM prototype. Help with the design of other tools (Event Center, Big Sky) on the intelligent platform. 

 

UI Design Intern

September 2012 – January 2013, Providence, RI

Vertical Performance Partners 

Lead the information architecture development of the company’s website redesign.

Create a highly customizable tablet based UI system for the company’s software application, which helps our clients, top pharmaceutical companies, achieve better performance during their internal training conferences. 

 

Research Assistant

October 2010 – May 2011, Providence, RI 

Rhode Island School of Design 

Design a brand new game including several sections to shorten the time a team used to activate thoughts at the first stage of brainstorming meetings.

A hearing aid design that provides synchronized feedback on the quality of the voice during the conversation. This design was selected from an international group of applicants.

A financial support was given to the research, testing and model making of my thesis project.
